Job Opening – Central Circuit Rider – MsRWA

The Mississippi Rural Water Association, Inc., is now accepting resumes for the position of Central Circuit Rider Technician. The basic requirements for employment are as follows:

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Multi-year employment required (5 years’ experience preferred) in working for, operating, maintaining, or managing a rural/community water system.
  2. Technical knowledge of operating, maintaining, and managing a rural/community water system.
  3. Knowledge of the financial, managerial, and operational characteristics of effectively run utility systems.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with operations specialists, decision makers, regulatory agencies, and other professionals.
  5. Ability to identify and describe financial, managerial, and operational issues to field personnel and decision-makers.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of regulations, monitoring, and reporting requirements.
  7. A willingness to travel extensively.
  8. Technology, use of computers, and cell phones.
  9. Hold or willing to obtain a Certification of Municipal and Domestic Water Facility Operator issued from MSDH.
  10. Willingness to travel extensively.
  11. Written approval of the NRWA Administrator/Program Manager prior to employment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Reside in or willing to relocate to the central part of the state.
  2. Travel extensively throughout the central part of the state to offer on-site technical assistance.
  3. Provide assistance in all areas of operations, maintenance, management, security, finance, loan application, and health & environmental issues.
  4. Provide the type of on-site assistance that offers “training” rather than “fixing.”
  5. Prioritizes request to ensure coverage of water/systems with health or economic problems first. Priority will also be given to persons or groups who do not have access to high quality drinking water or proper treatment.
  6. Attend NRWA In-Service training programs and annual conference to meet the individual needs of the Circuit Rider Technicians and to provide the tech with skills to transfer their knowledge to system personnel and the governing body.
  7. Review new technical standards set and proposed by public and private organizations.
  8. Write informational articles for the MsRWA magazine.
  9. Responds to inquiries from facilities, consumers, governmental agencies, and others regarding technical matters.
  10. Obtain a minimum of 30 on-site technical assistance contacts per month. On-site assistance must geographically represent the State during the program period.
  11. Visit the appropriate State Rural Development Office at least quarterly and District offices as set out in the Annual Operating Plan of work.
  12. Accurately completes and submits the required reporting in the required timely fashion.
