Chief Operator/Lab Tech – Hancock County Utility Authority

CHIEF OPERATOR / LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

 

Primary Role

 

Duties include insuring the wastewater treatment plants operate in accordance with applicable regulations and permit requirements and to ensure safe and efficient operation of machines and equipment, facilitate flow and treatment of wastewater, and monitor effectiveness of treatment. The Chief Operator will supervise and visit the wastewater treatment plants on a routine schedule. Laboratory duties will require quantitative chemical and biological analysis of wastewater. Results will be used for quality and process control and regulatory monitoring and reporting.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Oversees the chemical and biological laboratory analysis. Oversees the quality control and reporting requirements of laboratory.
  • Responsible for laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Keeps accurate inventory records.
  • Keeps accurate repair and general records.
  • Responsible for tools and equipment.
  • Orders parts, tools, equipment, etc. with approval of Wastewater Plant Manager.
  • Does whatever is required by the Board of Directors, Wastewater Plant Manager, or Executive Director as long as it is neither illegal nor immoral.
  • Assists the Wastewater Plant Manager and Executive Director in anticipating expenditures for budget purposes.
  • Aids the Wastewater Plant Manager in scheduling work at the HANCUA Wastewater Treatment Plants.

Skills

  • Ability to perform chemical and biological laboratory analysis on wastewater.
  • Ability to plan work schedules and keep up-to-date maintenance and inventory records.
  • Ability to work with, direct, and train others.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.

Knowledge

  • High School (GED) or trade school graduate with three (3) years experience in wastewater. Should hold or be working toward a Class II or above Operator’s license.
  • Knowledge and experience in pump and motor maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and wiring
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment and techniques of chemical and microbiological analysis pertaining to wastewater treatment.
  • Basic computer skills.
